Our History

MDS of Kansas, LLC, founded in 1991 by Donella Aubuchon, is well known as a premier provider of high-quality medical transcription, serving physician offices, clinics, hospitals and surgery centers in the Midwest.

  • MDS of Kansas, LLC was founded

    Medical Transcription Services (MTS) by Donella was founded in 1991 as a part-time, sole proprietor. MTS took on several new clients, growing steadily, and changed its name to MTS of Kansas, LLC within the first few years. Transcription was booming in the 90s, and workflow looked much different back then. Who remembers tape dictation, pickup and delivery (by car) with printed transcription on sticky paper to be placed in the paper charts? The good ole days!

    MTS of Kansas, LLC quickly became a premier provider of high-quality medical transcription.

  • AHDI Accreditation (education program now closed)

    Medical Document Services, MDS of Kansas, LLC (S-Corp) was born!

    MTS of Kansas, LLC was growing rapidly and new services were on the horizon. MTS rebranded to be inclusive of more than just transcription services. Education programs were desperately needed due to lack of quality MTs, so discovery and research were underway. We knew that quality medical document services were in demand, and that our services would be expanding.

    Education programs now closed.

  • KBOR Approved (education program now closed)

    After extensive research and curriculum buildouts, an online medical transcription program was created, and submitted to the national accreditation body for this industry. Proudly, our programs passed the stringent requirements for Association for Healthcare Documentation Industry, AHDI, Accreditation for Medical Transcription.

    Within months of AHDI approval, we submitted our curriculum to the Kansas Board of Regents and we were approved.

    Education programs now closed.

  • New Program and New Partner

    The Medical Transcription Programs were repurposed to create the Medical Scribe Specialist Education Program, and MDS became a Certified Academic Partner with The American College of Medical Scribe Specialists.

    Because of changes within the industry and economy, the market became saturated and our education programs were later retired.

  • Medical Billing Services

    Medical Billing Services.

    We began medical coding services for our first provider, which led to his transition to MDS for complete billing services.

  • New Partner

    Azalea Health Strategic Partner and VAR. 

    As we embarked on medical billing services, we needed the best Practice Management Software on the market.  This led us straight to Azalea Health!

  • Certified Women-Owned Business by NWBOC

    MDS of Kansas, LLC became a certified woman-owned business through National Women Business Owners Corporation, NWBOC.

  • Medical Scribes (onsite and virtual)

    Medical Scribe Services.  MDS began with onsite medical scribes, and expanded to include virtual medical scribes.

    The demand for medical scribes continued as providers in the clinical setting were experiencing extra burdens with documenting their encounters.  

  • To Date

    MDS of Kansas proudly serves clinics, hospitals, surgery centers, and many specialities across the Midwest.  While medical transcription has certainly changed, we are still providing robust transcription services for many providers who prefer and appreciate the do’s and don’ts of the medical language, as well as the accuracy within their documentation.  Many providers understand they can operate with both EMR and dictation with transcription. 

    To date, MDS provides much needed medical transcription services supporting the EMR workflow in addition to outsourced medical billing services and virtual and onsite medical scribe services.

Company Profile Resume

My name is Donella Aubuchon and I am the CEO and founder of MDS of Kansas, LLC (MDS) – a medical document service. We provide medical transcription, medical billing, and medical scribe services.

My professional background consists of more than 30 years in the healthcare industry. I began my career as a registered medical assistant (RMA) in 1986, going on to study business management at Wichita State University. During that time, I had an opportunity to enter the field of medical transcription; I quickly built a very successful medical transcription service (MDS).

My passion for entrepreneurship and the healthcare industry has afforded me many opportunities for growth and expanded services.

I take pride in creating a business that is Wichita-grown, and a pioneer in the industry offering complete solutions for healthcare documentation. With more than three decades in the medical field, I have witnessed firsthand the merging of advanced technology. This continues to place an emphasis on efficient and accurate healthcare documentation with new demands on physicians. We remain committed to helping alleviate those burdens placed on physicians.
